Telkom Monate Vibes came about during lock down (level 5) in 2020 when David Mashabela, who is the executive producer became really concerned about the music industry and the well-being of musicians. David, who is a radio host on Radio2000 has had the privilege of featuring many South African musicians on his show as well as play their music.
Through his passion and commitment to South African music, he was quick to establish that the industry is tremendously affected by the pandemic and would struggle to recover. A lot of people don’t know of all the people who work behind the scenes and depend on the entertainment industry to earn an income.
His experience in the production of television shows and music concerts gave him a broader perspective of the implications of the lockdown on production crews and freelancers. This inspired the idea of a live television concert to assist artists and their crew members. The objective of the show is also to entertain and uplift the spirits of South Africans. We are a vibrant society and music is a big part of who we are.
He proposed the concept to multiple organizations and months later, Telkom took a liking to the idea. The brand understood the immense importance of a music show of this nature, particularly how it aligned with their Monate campaign that is currently live.
From there on, as they say, the rest is history.
